Culinary Trends Writer's Guidelines
Thank you for your interest in contributing to Culinary
Trends, published 4 times a year. Culinary Trends' stories
focus on chefs because they are the stars of our industry. Chefs
make up the largest group of our readers, so stories should be
written to appeal to their interests.
Queries should published clips and a SASE.
Stories that feature a hotel or restaurant should include
quotes from the chef, general manager and possibly pastry chef
or sous chef. Stories run from about 1500 to 2000 words without
recipes.
Each story must include at least 4 recipes with
professionally shot photography of each dish. Photos of the
restaurant, chefs, etc. must also be provided by writer. Recipes
must be clear, complete and understandable to an average
consumer. The writer is responsible for checking each
recipe. Recipes found to have any problems will not be used and
could mean the story will not be used. The photography can be
digital as long as the resolution is high enough (300 dpi) for
printing. Everything should be submitted together with paper
copies and on disk or emailed. A strong headline and photo
captions must be included.
Stories of interest about the industry, food, or nutrition
may be used and are paid $100. The length should be 700-1000
words. If possible the writer should provide some type of
artwork to go with the story.
Whenever suggestions are made about a writer's work, they are
intended to be as helpful, constructive and encouraging as
possible. Any requested changes are meant to make the writer and
magazine look the best they can in print.
Other industry related stories may be accepted. Stories must
include photography or appropriate artwork. Those can be 900 to
1500 words in length.
Stories are only approved after everything is
received. Payment is on publication.
